Providing Wimax in an area just been hit by tsunami is a good idea. Hopefully those surfers will flock to TheGadgetblog.

Air Putih Foundation has completed the installation two BTS (base transmitter station) in Banda Aceh, as part of its effort to create new high speed Pre-WIMAX internet wireless connection. The 5,8 GHZ wireless equipment has been provided by Intel Corp.

The project has started since early June, after received green light from Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency for Aceh and Nias (BRR) to continue the project as a special case. Previously, the project hampered by telecommunication regulatory that forbid the use of 5,8 GHZ wireless technology. Current wireless internet connection that already setup by Air Putih since early days of tsunami is still using the classic 4,3 GHZ.

‘’Each BTS is capable to cover 50 km wide area. The network could provide high-speed data connection with speed up to 4 MB per second in its coverage areas. The connection between BTS is higher, up to 28 MB per second,’’ said Nugroho, who accompanied by Air Putih advisor Valens Riyadi.g

Via Indonesia Relief . Lets hope this Intel Wimax project will benefit all the people over there and not just a handful of wireless users.
