Step Communications STEP 1150 Bluetooth Wireless Headset
I got the Step Communications STEP 1150 Bluetooth Wireless Headset a few weeks back and have been testing it on the Sony Ericsson T630. So far the battery life is good with standby going on for 7 days straight ( the default specs is 5 days ) . The printed talk time on the box is 4 hours talk time but I have yet to talk that long as I am just too busy blogging.
It took about 3 tries for me to get a hand of putting this headset on my funny ears. First try was tough. So I had my wife putting it on for me. Second try was also a bummer and I could not get the feel of it. Third time was a cinch and it felt funny as I was trying to move my head to shake it off. Luckily, it stayed on and making calls with it is easy once you connect to the phone. Sound quality was good even when there is background tv noise and the rubber head was grippy.
The headset supports the standard Bluetooth headset profile, so it should work with any Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone or PDA (personal digital assistant).
What can I say. This headset is quite cool. You can hide it if you have long hair and pretend you are talking to yourself. At 20 grams, you will hardly feel it on too and taking calls on it just needs a quick press on the front button.
The Step 1150 Bluetooth headset is a pretty good handsfree device, even though getting it on your ear for the first time can be quite fiddly.
Nevertheless, once that is mastered, the headset does achieve the manufacturer’s claim of being comfortable and unobtrusive.
Cnet has this to say:
The Step 1150 Bluetooth Wireless headset might look like a futuristic space shrimp, but don’t take its distinctive design to be a good thing. Though it is lightweight and employs a rotating speaker, its controls are tiny, and the nonmalleable plastic resulted in an extremely uncomfortable fit. We also found that it’s too small to fit behind the ear, and we often felt like a strong wind would blow it off.

[…] Jabra, a leading brand of hands-free communication products for the mobile consumer market announced yesterday, 29 Nov 2005, shipment of its Jabra JX10 designer Bluetooth headset created by world-renowned Danish design company Jacob Jensen Design. This 10 gram bluetooth headset is available in only silver colour ( aren’t there shocking pink headset? ) and it will now be easier for you to lose this than your earrings since it measures less than four centimetres. I’ll stick to my heavy STEP 1150 Bluetooth Wireless Headset for now, thanks ! The Jabra JX10 is among the smallest and lightest headsets in the industry. It weighs less than 10 grams (one ounce) and measures less than four centimetres (one and a half inches) in length. Fitting securely either with or without the thin and discreet ear-hook, users will barely notice they are wearing it. […]
