Upgrade Sony Ericsson K750 to W800i
Why on earth would anybody want to change their Sony Ericsson K750 ROM to a Sony Ericsson W800i beats me on the head ? Isn’t it better to just get the Sony Ericsson W800i ? I’ll leave this to wannabe hackers and their tinkering… Take note. This could void your warranty.

A China website shows that we can flash the K750 ROM to upgrade it to a Sony Ericsson W800 one. Will it hang or give problems ? Beats me. I can’t read Chinese to save my life. You might also want to check the pics that I took of the launch for the Sony Ericsson W800i over in Midvalley Megamall (Kuala Lumpur) some time ago.
Seems that the upgrade will do some good as per below.
- more stable, faster response
- better sound quality
- can open music feature and act as walkman
- better GUI
(I think the menu system and features in the Sony w800 are all exactly the same as the K750i. Idealgadget.com did not get this correct)
- music player can sort songs by author, tracks, etc. Remember playback position even after turn off the phone.

Why is it better to get W800i when the only main difference are the content in the firmware? oh gee, with w800i u get 512mb memory stick, screw that, i already have 1gig of memory stick pro and another 1gig of ms pro duo. why should i pay more to get the bundle ms and a shitty earphone? overall w800i is shit except the firmware and i’ll wait for the 3g version next year

I purchased the w800i. Was it worth the extra $100? Perhaps… I love the w800i. I think the earphones are superb. You can plug in any standard 3.5mm headphones. I too purchased a 1gig memory stick, but why wait a year for a 3g version? In a year 2gig memory sticks will be cheap enough to buy.
The camera lens casing is far better on the w800i than the k750i. I perfer the softer number pads on the w800i (more pressure is required to push the buttons). Unless you already own a k750i, why go down an unknown road of upgrading the k750i when you can by w800i?
The w800i is probably a little more expensive because it carries the Walkman branding.
The main internal hardware difference is the internal memory from 32MB to 38MB.

Actually, the w800i is also constructed better than the K750i, so it’s not entirely a dead loss getting it.
Also, unless like hisyam above, you already have memory disk duo media, the bundle is actually not too bad.
I really don’t like the orange though.

I too purchased a 1gig memory stick, but why wait a year for a 3g version?
because I don’t need the extra 512mb stick. coz i already own a nokia 6680 which is 3g. why wait another year? it’s september now and next year is only a few months away, the 3g version will come out early next year. research?

Come on guys…. Actually both have the same function and spec. The only different is that w800 comes with 512mb external memory and it is a walkman series. I know this because I have both k750i and w800i. If you already have k750 then dont bother to buy w800 except you have alot of money to buy another phone. And for those who want to buy k750, dont do it, go ahead and buy w800. As for firmware and stuff; well both are the same, of course you can flash to w800 firmware if you want. But its going to void the warranty and makes it difficult for you to update your phone software online later on. But still, it depends on your taste, and budget. As for 3g, I’m still waiting for SonyEricsson phone that have 3g capabilities and as powerfull as my k750i/w800i. Because by far that is the best phone I ever buy.
Nokia? Motorola? I got those phone as well and including the latest 3g, but its not that cool as my k750/w800. However I’m still waiting for Nokia n91 and n70. Hopefully its going to be the best 3g phone. Sorry SonyEricsson, the new 3g series (which is still coming soon) you offer is lack in feature in contrast to k750/w800. Even k600 is the worse.

i hate the w800 its one of the worst phones iv ever had, it always freezes and renames my files deletes my music and cant even play videos taken by its own camera its a piece of shit

I think that you should stick with what you got. They are both the same phones with only slight differences. Why waste time and money in getting the W800i if you already have the K750i? Unless you’re stupid, or stupdily rich, keep the K750. It looks better anyway!!!

hey pips u r all crazy the w800i desing is a piece of crak. k750i is better, the oly diference they have is he walkman softwere and the memory card. for those who want to buy a new fone wait for the w810i and yes that is truly upgrad in sound quality and thecnolical features.

How could I customize the two programmable button’s function on w800i ??? I had a k750i only for a few hours and a think that in k750i THERE WAS a possibility to change the function of two buttons but on w800i I can not find in menu, shortcuts … only 4 direction of joystick!

you see SE W800 costs 355$ and K750i about 200 $,,hardvare is identical SE changed nothing exept frimevare,and that frimavere does phone better,and the price is higher plus NAME ‘walkman’.
so i better put w800 frimeware for 10 $ in my k750i ,but not buy new phone.

Well I like my music, but want to look business-like to clients, so the K750i suits my style. The w800 looks like a teenagers toy. Hence the upgrade.

Actually you flash W800i FW to your K750i.
You can make also a W800i to a K750i.
We gave it a name W750i.
Now i own a M600i…got bored of the W750…

I can also recommend a cool app for Sony’s. It’s called i-Citizen and it came out recently. It’s the world’s first 3D world and the k800 works like a charm on it. Its fun to play and you can meet people and chat to them as you might have guessed. They have promotions where they give away PS3’s and Xboxes to people in a place called i-Bid in the app. Its beta release was announced in March 2008 and anyone can give it a try. k750 and w800 use the same motherboard…but w800 has better features because of the firmware. So, sony ericsson says “lets make some money, using the same product but with different menus and better outlook.. noone will notice the difference”. we pay extra money for nothing.. They make money from nothing… also you can change the covers (from k750 you can put it in w800) .
