Linux Gadgets: TVBrick.
An oldy, but a goody! Nexedi, a French company, produces the TVBrick.
The TVBrick is a Linux-based device derived from the OpenBrick project. What can the TVBrick do for you? It lets you watch your home TV channels from anywhere in the world over a high-speed Internet connection.
There are some caveats to the system, though. Users have to have at least a 256Kb upload capacity at home and even then the video is a choppy 9 frames per second.
Nexedi CEO Jean-Paul Smets said “the use of TVBrick appliances for private use within the same family is compatible with Copyright Law in Europe and in Japan. This is why Nexedi is selling TVBrick to families only, mainly Japanese. Also, in order to help our customers not to infringe on copyright, we implemented a password system to restrict access to members of the same family.”
