Sony Ericsson W950 3G Phone

by colbert low on February 15th, 2006

The new Sony Ericsson W950 3G Phone looks like a really cool phone with a cool flat keypad. Funnily it looks like a re-packaged Sony Ericsson M600.

However, at least as important as musical ability seems to be storage, and vendors are taking this to heart with the appearance of 4GB of onboard capacities — as with Sony Ericsson’s W950 UMTS-enabled model which can store up to 4,000 songs. This sixth model from the Walkman phone stable also features web browsing, push e-mail, video streaming and 3D gaming.

Based on the same Symbian platform as the M600, UIQ v3 on Symbian OS v9.1, the W950 makes use of both a touch screen and a 3-way scroll wheel for navigation. Unlike recent new handsets from Nokia and Samsung, the W950 uses flash memory to achieve its 4GB of audio file capacity, which seems like a great idea. The updated Walkman app is capable of playing MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, AAC+, and eAAC+ files - meaning you can get upwards of 4,000 songs crammed into the device. Stereo Bluetooth output is supported with headsets such as Sony Ericsson’s new HBH-DS970. Sony Ericsson expects the W950’s battery to be able to supply power for 10 hours of music playback. It can also provide 2.5/7.5 (UMTS/GSM) hours of talk time or 250/340 hours of standby time.
