Kingston MobileLite Review

by colbert low on July 24th, 2007

Here’s my review on the Kingston MobileLite that I received last month. It’s a pretty nifty gadget as the direct USB function.

Small in size

The Kingston MobileLite is pretty compact and light. It’s a great gadget to bring on trips or in your purse when you need a good reliable card reader. Though I wish the casing came in different colour instead of the default white, it feels pretty tough and opens up easily when you need to slip in a SD card.

Using the Kingston MobileLite

I think Kingston should label the casing as both sides can open up to accommodate the cards but you might not be sure which side is for the Micro SDs or full size SDs. The reader is fairly easy to open up and sliding in a SD card was pretty easy. Pop it into the PC’s USB slot and my laptop managed to detect it easily.

Performance and Transfer Speed

I did some testing on this card reader using my laptop running Windows XP SP2. I copied some photos from the PC’s USB 2.0 slot to the card reader and then used my watch to time the results. Here they are :

7.14MB in 19.86 seconds.19.5 MB in 37.09 seconds

I think this results are pretty good and reasonably fast. Deleting the files are much quicker and the green light on the reader indicates the transfer process.

Don’t buy this product. I bought one and it failed within a week; I exchanged it and it failed in 2 months.
