CES 2008 - Slim and Lite PSPs get Skype calls
Sony wants Gamers to be able to use Skype in its latest update for PSPs. The full Skype system will allow gamers full PSP to PSP calls, PSP to PC calls and PSP to normal phone calls as long as there is credits. Owners who own the old version will frown as PSP Skype is only compatible with the newer Slim and Lite PSP 2000 series.
As we suspected, the arrival of Skype heralds a new peripheral, which Sony was demonstrating a prototype of. The new headset has a tiny boom mic and the ear pieces fit over the ear rather than in the ear like the normal set of buds. The new headset will be arriving at the same time as the firmware update and the Sony rep informed me that there is actually nothing stopping third party peripheral manufacturers from making their own Skype PSP headsets at the same time.

I got my kids these PSP slim and lites for XMas (I’m in the UK). Can anyone tell me what sort of headset is recommended with this machine? I’m assuming there’s something out there that acts as a remote controller built into the headphone. This SKYPE hedset sounds good but I don’t think it’s in the shops yet? Anything for a quieter life please!
